Tonight’s program features the pre-premiere of a specially commissioned project called Białowieża, by Chris Watson and Izabela Dłużyk. Drawing on field recordings made in Europe’s last primeval forest, the live show will be conducted in darkness, evoking Izabela’s experience of the world as a sightless person, where her perception of sound is heightened. The project also refers to the ways the natural sounds of Puszcza Białowieska have taken on more shadowy layers of meaning, due to the migrant crisis in the forest, in which scores of people have died trying to cross the border between Belarus and Poland, and being pushed back. Commissioned by TIMES* – the Independent Movement for Electronic Scenes.
Following is Keeley Forsyth, who appears with an ensemble to perform around the release of her album The Hollow. She performs with Ross Downes on electronics, multi-instrumentalist Matthew Bourne, Warsaw cellist and label mate Resina and projections by video artist Netia Jones.
