Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka present Hiraeth (SHAPE+)(DK/PL)
A Welsh word that lacks a direct English translation, 'Hiraeth' is a form of homesickness that's struck through with sadness over what's been lost. Danish sound artist Sofie Birch and Polish singer and composer Antonina Nowacka use this concept as the starting point for their second album, triggering buried memories with tape saturated folk instrumentation, evocative environmental recordings and gauzy vocal phrases. Presented for the first time at Ephemera 2025, it's music that intricately understands the bewitching charm of nostalgia, conjuring up an extinct utopia that's at odds with time and technology.
